Exploring the "Aggregate" Theme, by Elegant Themes

Gallery Page

A Gallery page, by default, collects every featured image from your site’s posts and presents them in one place. It does not collect featured images from pages. The default setting may or may not make sense for your content. You can create multiple gallery pages, each of which assembles the featured image from specific categories. There does not seem to be a way to specifically choose which individual images appear here but there are other approaches to building custom image galleries.

In my opinion the Gallery Page is a good idea but flawed in execution. I don’t know yet if that is unique to Aggregate, or to Elegant Themes across the board. The problem with gallery pages is that they are bandwidth gluttons. They pull in full-sized images, which in this case are 6000 pixels wide and several megabytes. The 6000 pixel wide image is simply being squashed down to fit the page using HTML. This technique was considered a joke 20 years ago. I like the Aggregate theme but I would cut a letter grade from its rating on account of this.
